I grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada — the city that never sleeps! So that might explain my ability to fire on all pistons with very little rest. I attended college in California and Nevada. I graduated in 2000 from Princeton Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity and Master of Arts in Education. Before coming to St. Peter’s I was on the pastoral staff at Mercer Island Presbyterian Church in the Seattle Area for 13.5 years — most recently as Co-Pastor/Head of Staff. I am married to Dr. Devon Singh-Barrett, a clinical psychologist, and we are crazy in love and proud of our two kids Mayah and Miles.
My Short-Term Childhood Ambition was realized winning the Bike Rodeo at my elementary school in the 4th Grade. I completed the figure eight on my bicycle with no hands like a champ. It was AWESOME!
My Long-Term Childhood Ambition was to be a part of something that would change the world. I think the church is just that. I am (we are) always a “work in progress.”
What inspires me? People inspire me. I have the best “job" in the world. I’m humbled to do what I do because I have the unique opportunity of being invited into very sacred spaces of people’s lives. I get to hear and learn from their stories. Sometimes I hear stories of where God is present and tangible and alive with them. Other times, as I listen, I am able to point out where I see God tangibly present with them when they cannot. People and their stories inspire me. Anywhere. Anytime.
In My Spare Time, I’m also quite accomplished at watching a good movie and consuming a bowl of Lucky Charms.
I grew up in Southeast Los Angeles County and graduated from La Mirada High School, with Dad, Mom, older brother and younger sister, and lots of animals from the day I was born. I spent a lot of time at the beach, riding horses and going to rock concerts. I took my horse with me to U.C. Davis, joined the Rodeo club and the Polo team. I studied Animal Science and graduated with a bachelor of science degree. I received a Master's of Divinity degree at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA.
My Perfect Day: Sleep in, have coffee, hit the beach, ride horses, hang with friends over a good meal, pet my dog, read something and play Clash of Clans on my tablet. Giving thanks to God for it all. For the perfect So Cal day, I’d skip the sleeping in and add some runs on the local ski slopes – to do it all!
My Childhood Ambition: To have horses, to write, and to love. On my college application, I wrote that I wanted to ride in a covered wagon across the United States one day – but that doesn’t seem so appealing to me now.
Most People Don't Know: I’ve been on television more times than I can remember as a media spokesperson for fruit and vegetable growers, packers and shippers in California and Arizona. Friends traveling in London turned on the “telly” and I was on CNN – too funny!
What inspires me? God’s love, shown in and through Jesus. People who care. Wide open spaces – blue water, blue skies, horizons. Laughter.
I grew up in Granada Hills and attended Alemany High in Mission Hills. I studied music at California State University, Stanislaus in Turlock, CA receiving both BA and MA degrees. I also completed a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in Choral Music and spent a year in Berlin, Germany studying music at the Hochschule der Kuenste on a Rotary Foundation Fellowship. At the time, Berlin was still a walled city, an island in the middle of East Germany.
What inspires me? Learning new things, especially music; perceiving the interconnectedness of all things and beings.
My Perfect Day: Either swimming in the ocean or hiking in the mountains or a reading marathon.
My First job: I drove delivery trucks around LA/Orange county basin for a cutting edge professional sound company (movie and tv studios, major rock concerts, Disneyland, Seaworld, Knott's Berry Farm). At one point I drove a truck cross country to deliver equipment for both the US Tennis Open and the Miss America Pageant.
I grew up in Torrance, California then spent a few years living in Massachusetts while I went to Gordon College. I returned to the west coast in 2015 when I started where I am now-at St. Peter’s!
A Perfect Day: A perfect day would start out rainy with some time to read, include time spent with good friends, a pink and purple sunset over the ocean, and lots of chips and salsa from the farmer’s market.
Childhood Ambition: I really wanted to be a Rockette in the New York Radio City Christmas Spectacular and was pretty disappointed when I didn’t make it to their 5’6 minimum height requirement. I also dreamed about publishing a book…maybe that ambition is still a possibility.
I Am Passionate About: Sharing life with students as they encounter God and discover the life they were created for.
I grew up Sierra Madre, CA. My sisters and I stayed with my grandparents frequently when we were growing up. They were members of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Pasadena, CA and I loved that beautiful Gothic cathedral!
A Perfect Day: would probably include a leisurely morning, gardening, reading a good book on a lounge chair in the sun and then going out to dinner or barbecuing (not me cooking though!) at home.
My First Job: was working at a small business that sold needlepoint kits via catalog. Now they would be an online business I imagine. I would count out how many strands of each color of yarn that each kit required, sometimes it would be hard to stay awake. Not much excitement in that job!
Most People Don't Know: I’ve ridden on the back of a Harley Davidson motorcycle from CA to Sturgis, SD to the annual Harley Davidson rally three times.
I grew up in the South Bay and graduated college from UCLA with a degree in Political Science. I love sports, music, food and learning new things.
